Hiking at Mount Arbel

Hiking at Mount Arbel is probably one of the most exciting things to do for hikers because it has an absolutely spectacular view. It is a 330 meter climb over 8 kilometers and may be somewhat difficult but the experience will be well worth it.

Toward the top, you will be able to visit the ruins of the synagogue way back from the 4th century. Up there, you will have a perfect view of the Sea of Galilee, the Golan Heights, and the tallest mountain in Israel, Mount Hermon. The view is magical and well worth the hike up there.

You’ll have a taste of the rich history of the area, including caves were Jews hid out from the Greeks in Romans. These caves have been used by many rebels to hide out over the past few thousand years and in fact, Mount Arbel has a bloody history. There is also a rich Biblical history of the area too, including Mary Magdalene’s house nearby and paths where Jesus traveled from Cana to Nazareth.

The hike itself is considered neither overly difficult nor too easy, other than a few steeper parts here and there. There are several trails you can take including the Israel National Trail and the Jesus Trail. You will have to pay an entry fee and make sure you come when its open—from 8 am to 5 pm in summer and it closes at 4 pm in winter.

Do not miss this wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Sea of Galilee from peak of Mount Arbel. Imagine the feeling you’ll have, seeing everything from so high. Many people have commented how beautiful it is and the peak itself is one of the places people have photographed the Sea of Galilee from the most. Hiking at Mount Arbel will give you a chance to travel back in time and see the world in a way you never have before.
